K-OS v1.2

Unfortunately, Josef Kilter’s Version 1.2 Operating system (fig1.1) belonged to Anarkum Technologies and after a protracted legal battle he had to forever release rights to the K-OS v1.2 system to his greedy partner. Kilter then started a new company, appropriately named Kilter Technologies, which went public only to have its stock plummet after a semi-legitimate investigation into Kilter’s seedy past with Anarkum. Kilter was responsible for a number of white-collar crimes such as money laundering and insider trading. Kilter spent his entire fortune keeping out of jail. Meanwhile, Anarkum got off with a fine.

Kilter seemed to be ruined until a man named Philip Mezenski stepped in. Mezenski’s company MARE (Mezenski Aerospace Restitution Enterprises) was in direct competition with Anarkum and wanted to hire Kilter to develop operating systems for their products. Quite naturally Kilter agreed. Thus K-OS v1.3 was born.

UFT government officials suffered a good deal of public fallout from their nearly exclusive association with Anarkum Technologies after the investigative scandal, so they decided to break with tradition and outsource their system technologies to none other than MARE. The UFT contracted Kilter to develop the distinctive blue styling of his K-OS v1.3a, a UFT exclusive. Kilter hid all kinds of personal touches into the inner workings of this Operating System. His passive agressive revenge towards Anarkum came in the form of the K-OS Missions Program. Now, anyone with Anarkum technology could unlock its true potential by completing the sessions in the UFT exclusive system. In essence, he offered people a way to greatly improve their Anarkum systems by switching to the MARE backed UFT iteration. This concept applies to the Intrepid Tank as well, because its parts operate on the later generation K-OS v1.2 builds.

Consequently, Anarkum’s monopoly on UFT defense was now only slightly less than complete. MARE now had the foothold it needed to strike some major deals with the government. Anarkum was a shrewd man and wouldn’t go down without a fight, but if his Colony Experiment failed there is no telling what would become of the resulting power struggle.
